Splish Splash

I haven't posted any photos of the pool up until now, mainly because I couldn't bring myself to post "before" photos of the cesspool until we had some "after" photos where it actually looked like a pool, as opposed to a festering West Nile virus breeding ground.

However, yesterday some experts came and walked Rob through the process of opening the pool. They will return in the fall to walk him through closing the pool and hopefully after that we'll be able to handle it without professional support. Hopefully. Additionally, Rob has attended "Pool School", so he is now an expert on pool maintenance. Or, at least, that is the theory.

So! Here we go.

Here is the festering West Nile virus breeding ground in all its glory.

Here is a shot of the pump used to remove the water that has collected on top of the cover. You can see that the area around the pool requires some work. This summer that will probably only consist of a new fence and some weed removal, however longer term we'll be ripping up the stones surrounding the pool and replacing them.

The water was pumped out, slowly but surely, until there was nary a drop left.

When the cover is pulled back, lo and behold! It actually looks like a swimming pool underneath!

Once the cover was off, the stairs and ladder were put in place.

And last, but most definitely not least... the diving board. We are pretty darn excited to pop some cannonballs and can openers off that bad boy, let me tell you.

We'll be picking up a solar blanket this week, and hopefully, if the weather cooperates, we'll be testing out the diving board in a couple of weeks!

While pool work was ongoing, so was work in the kitchen. One of the walls required a bit more mudding and sanding.

The schedule remains tight, but we are still on schedule. Knocking wood, of course.
