Slow but steady progress

Things are coming along slowly but surely. Every evening after work Rob has been heading to the new house and working until eleven or twelve o'clock, while I have been holding down the fort on the home front... which basically means that meals have been making it onto the table, but the laundry hasn't been getting done frequently enough. Priorities, right?

In looking through the blog, I realized I hadn't posted any photos of the deck. It is nice and big, and gets a perfect combination of sun and shade at all hours of the day. Eventually the deck will be moved, and possibly made slightly smaller, once we put the sliding doors off the dining room. But, that is a long term job, so the deck will remain as-is for the time being.

Patrick was the first person to dip a toe in the pool. He was suitably impressed. Despite its very cold temperature, he really wanted to go for a dip.

The previous owner left us a full suite of pool maintenance tools, including a leaf skimmer and "kreepy krawly" vacuum.

Work in the kitchen is progressing at a fantastic rate. With a bit more work tomorrow all cabinets and appliances will be in place, and we will have met our "critical path" deadline for the counter measurements to be taken. This is a huge deal - during our last kitchen renovation we missed the counter deadline not once, but multiple times. Hats off to Rob, and a special shout-out to his always-willing helpers Dave and Derek.

Meanwhile, upstairs, I stripped the wallpaper border out of Patrick's room. I have never stripped wallpaper before. It isn't fun.

Here is a final look at the Kitchen Guy, who will more than deserve the rest he will get this week. The floor refinishing begins on Tuesday, which means we will be banned from entering the house until Thursday.

Reinforcements in the form of Rob's Dad will be arriving on Thursday to help take this project across the finish line. Once the floors are done, painting and bathroom work begins. Mayhem is sure to ensue.
